Homeville VFC hosted a CPR class for the Steel Valley Firefighters Association for drill on Thursday night. All Steel Valley companies were invited. 



Station 293 and Station 294 attended the annual Sample West Mifflin event tonight at the West Mifflin Middle School promoting Fire Safety and recruiting prospective members for all West Mifflin Fire Companies. 



Members from Homeville Station 293 held a fire safety assembly at Homeville Elementary School. Members from Homeville were joined by members from Baldwin EMS and Allegheny County Emergency Services. Students listened to speakers from each department and got to ask questions. Around 4:30am this morning crews from Station 293 were dispatched to assist Station 171 (Homestead) for a dwelling fire on E. 14th Ave. 


Members from Station 293 participated in their weekly Thursday night drill. Members worked with the Rescue 42 strut system to help stabilize a vehicle on its side. The Rescue 42 system can quickly be deployed to stabilize a vehicle to ensure rescuer and victim safety during extrication. b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_3601.JPG

Stations 293, 294, 298 and 510 were dispatched to Homestead Duquesne Road for a vehicle accident with rollover. Units arrived on-scene to find a single box truck on its side and all occupants out of the vehicle.  Crews helped clean up fluids and assisted with traffic.b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_0892_20160512-145126_1.JPG

The officers and members of Homeville VFC would to congratulate Probationary Firefighter Mark Mashoney on completing his essentials of firefighting and obtaining the rank of Firefighter.

The officers and members of Homeville VFC would to congratulate Probationary Firefighter Jimmy Kostovny on completing his essentials of firefighting and obtaining the rank of Firefighter.

The members of Station 293 would like to say a special thank you to Ryan Mull for his Eagle Scout Project. Ryan's Eagle Scout Project was to build a roof/window simulator.

This simulator will be used to train firefighters on how to properly ventilate a roof and to also train on entering and exiting through a window in multiple training scenarios.

The members of Homeville look forward to using this new training tool in their upcoming drills.



Earlier this evening Station 293 was dispatched to Kennywood Blvd for a vehicle fire. 293 Chief arrived on scene with a fully involved vehicle fire. 293 Rescue responded with Baldwin EMS and numerous police agencies from the surrounding area. Crews were on scene for roughly 45 minutes.


At 1640 station 293 was dispatched for a dwelling fire on Douglas Avenue. The caller reported that they can see smoke coming from a second floor window. Units from station 293 (Homeville), 298 (Whitaker), 294 (Duquesne Annex), 171 (Homestead) and 161 (Glassport) were due to respond. The fire was quickly knocked down and units were on scene for roughly 1 1/2 hours


At 1851 station 293 was dispatched to assist station 294 with a vehicle rollover and 1 occupant trapped. 293 Rescue responded and assisted with vehicle stabilization and extract. Last night around 7pm station 293 was requested to assist station 278 (Swissvale) with at the time a 2nd alarm Apartment fire. 293 Quint and 293 Utility responded and arrived on scene to an apartment building with fie through the roof. 293 Quint set up aerial operations for a defensive attack. Crews were on scene for roughly 5 1/2 hours before clearing.



Earlier this morning around 2:30am Station 293 was dispatched to the 1100 block of Brierly Lane for a vehicle accident with entrapment. 293 chief along with Baldwin EMS and West Mifflin Police arrived on scene to confirm that the patient was indeed trapped inside the vehicle. The vehicle had flipped over a guardrail and rolled on its roof pinning the driver inside the vehicle. 293 Rescue and 294 Rescue responded and stabilized then extricated the patient from the vehicle. Station 293 along with 113 assisted Whitaker VFC last night with a vehicle accident in the middle of the snow storm. Good job to all crews!
